Quiet Nauvoo
It has amazed us this week.....Nauvoo has quieted down!! Alot of the tourists have left. I suppose that is because many of the schools down here start up again tomorrow. It is even beginning to look and feel like fall. The crops are getting ready to harvest and the third cut of hay has been off for about a week. The next cut will be ready again in about a month if we get any moisture. We are not hurting for moisture like you are at home but they still say that it is a dry year.
On one of our last nights of Sunset, I looked up in the sky and there was a parasail (sp?) floating by. I was heading backstage and happened to be carrying my phone in my dress pocket so quickly took a couple of pictures....you can barely see him in the branches of the trees. He landed a couple of blocks away and we saw him heading out of town with it on our way home. Kind of a cool sight .
Last night, we went for a walk in the evening. This is a view of the State Park across from our front door and the noise in the background are cicada bugs. They are so noisy now that it is hard to carry on a conversation as you walk!!! Look them up on google....I used the National Geographic site and found it very interesting. They are of the same family as crickets but are in the trees and WAY louder than a cricket !We have several fields around us that are grape orchards. They are about ready to harvest and we stopped and took a picture on our way home from church today. The farmer was there getting his harvester ready to go. Jim enjoyed visiting with him and learning about the way the harvester works. Nauvoo actually has a Grape Festival on the Labor Day weekend every year. We will have to report on that.
Kind of a funny looking contraption , eh ?!?! To me, it looks like part of a tractor on top of something that looks kind of like a zoom boom with these arms and belts for shaking the vines and gathering the grapes.
We are spending alittle more time in the sites. Both Jim and I served in the Family Living Center all day on Monday. We had a mission dinner that evening out at the Pagaent Headquarters to say goodbye to all of the YPMs and some of our senior couples. The mission is changing alot as they leave and we are expecting a few new senior couples in. Change is always a good thing !
One thing that never changes is our love for our family. I shouldn't say that....it does change in that it deepens and grows. We also have learned to love the people that are around us and serve with us. They are genuine friends and we are grateful for them, as well.
