2019

Wow....it took some thinking to type 2019!:-)   We have had a good week and are grateful for that!  First of all, we had a mission New Years Eve party that was alot of fun !  Of course, they adjusted the clocks so that we actually celebrated and still were home at the right time!!  Hahaha!!  As if we could have stayed awake that late anyway....Not!!
 They set up a photo booth and we all took turns getting our pictures taken and then stood around in a circle and air-dropped the pictures to each other .  Above are Elder & Sis. Schmidt from Utah.  He is the amazing carpenter that makes these totally unique things.  Below:  Elder & Sis. Naef from Wyoming.  We travel to and from Quincy with these two every Sunday and have grown to love them like brothers and sisters.  They leave to go home at the end of this month and we will miss them alot!

 Below:  Elder & Sis. Corder from Idaho.  He has a really bad back and has had to have major surgery while out here.  He, now, works only in the sites.  She is the secretary / office manager for the FM department.

 Below:  Elder & Sis. Howard from Wyoming.  I work with Sis. Howard every day and he is a cabinet maker in the carpentry department.  He has also been a senator in Wyoming

 The Canadians!!  I can't find the pic with our masks on but this is Elder & Sis. Hall from Cardston.  We love serving with them.  He works in the mechanics shop and she does 2 days in the sewing room and the other days in Conservation (taking care of the sites)

 This picture includes Elder Roberts (a young service elder) who was trying to photo-bomb everyone!  He is a delightful young man who loves to tease everyone.  He loves to steal Jim's hats !!

 You will never guess what !!  Today is our hump day....we just realized this!  Our release date is Oct. 6, 2019.  The past 9 months have passed quickly but I'm sure that the next will go by even quicker so will have to really enjoy them.  This next picture is me.....all geared up to go in and "back-roll" behind the man that spray painted the condos.  He told us that we have to wear the "monkey sock" and mask because there is a fine mist of paint that lingers in the air.   We got both of the holiday condo units done last week which is pretty amazing....ceilings, walls, ... we sanded, chaulked, and painted.   A primer and 2 top coats.  We could never have got that much done without spraying it but I was VERY tired at the end of each day.   Hope this week is a little easier.


Sad thing this week.....Elder Hixson was sent home.  He has been Jim's service elder for several months.  Others had given up on him and Jim has been so patient with him but he was not trying and was actually causing a great deal of contention in the house that he shared with 5 other service elders as well as in the work place so Jordan called him and Jim in and told him that enough was enough.  Jim and another senior elder (Christenson) took him to meet his parents at the half way point.....he is from Oklahoma.  We sincerely hope that he can get some counselling and the help that he needs.

Every week is new so we will see what develops this next week.  We are healthy and happy here. We would really love to see any of you at any time so make some plans to come....OK?!?!  We can promise you that it will be worth the effort and a trip that you won't forget.   Love you all !

Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019 Goodbye Quincy As the end draws near for our time & service here in Nauvoo, I have been trying to "soak" up each and every opportunity for memories.  We attended our last meetings in Quincy today.  It was fast and testimony meetings as next week is General Conference.  I fully intended to bear my testimony and say goodbye BUT the meeting really was full with the ward members who were giving the same thoughts as I .  I soaked up strength from their testimonies and bore mine in my heart and to my Father in Heaven.  My testimony has strengthened by our service and I love those that we have come to know in our Quincy 2nd ward.  I love watching the horses do their run each Monday morning from pasture to barn. So here you go....again! Look at the soother hung on the fence post....quircky and odd...haha! Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019 A great week The weeks have been so busy that they are literally flying by.  I will give you a quick review. MONDAY :  we attended our regular prayer meeting at FM compound at 7:00 a.m. where we receive a "thought for the day"  This week's theme is diligence.  I always appreciate these thoughts because it elevates my thoughts for the day beyond the temporal tasks that must be attended to. Immediately after prayer meeting, Jim and I attended a mission leadership council meeting which includes all of the zone leaders and mission staff.  We correlate activities and policies within the mission.    In the evening, a bunch of us missionaries went over to the theater in Keokuk where they were showing a movie entitled "Overcomers"  It is a Christian produced movie similar to Courageous but whose theme was about overcoming adversity and becoming better.  We all enjoyed it!  It was recommended by some fellow missionar...

Monday, Oct. 21, 2019 We're Home Although we are home, we find that we left a piece of our heart in Nauvoo.  There is not a day that goes by that, we do not think about Nauvoo!   The last week in Nauvoo was a whirlwind of activity as we wanted to soak in everything that we could.  We attended the temple one last time and never tire of the view of the Mississippi valley as we exit that sacred place.   These two oxen were just babies last summer and look at them now!   They are pulling a bigger wagon (not full size, yet) with people inside.  Their trainer takes them out every evening and I really enjoy watching them ! There is also another team of little oxen that are being trained to follow and pull.  They were just born this summer.
