Sunday June 2, 2019
And here it is....June already ! It has been a busy couple of weeks and I will try to catch you up ! First and foremost, we have been able to have David and Jill with us since last Sunday (hence no post last week) They are still here awaiting a car repair. I'll explain....last Monday, we had a full night of torrential rain. Apparently, their windshield is not completely sealed and the rain came into their dash..completely soaking it and their electronics went wacko. We pulled their vehicle into the garage and put 2 fans in it to dry everything out then disconnected their battery for a day, hoping that everything would reset. Next, we had Kendall Gallaher (hired mechanic for FM) come and check out all the fuses. It has come down to a part that they had replaced at home 2 months ago (used part ) So...Kendall has ordered the part which should be here tomorrow as long as one of the bridges across the river stays open. They have closed several because of the flooding that is going on around the entire area.
| When David & Jill arrived last Sunday, we took them to see our favorite places |
| Entrance to the Temple |
This is a view of the Temple from across the river....in Montrose. We crossed the river at Fort Madison and drove through a street with some water. These next pictures will show you....the old Fort is surrounded by water and they are pumping water out of the train station (to no avail) There was a person in a kayak who was actually checking on the station.
On Sunday, after church, Jim and David went with Elder & Sister Christensen to Quincy to help with a big sandbagging service project. There were hundreds of people filling sand bags and a front end loader was taking them and dumping them into waiting trucks to be used. Several homes have been lost in West Quincy. We are wishing that we could send some of the rain to Northern Alberta to help with the wildfires there.
This last picture is taken today outside of our back door. We have loved having family with us and sharing our world with them. Hope you all have a great week. Our mission training this week challenged us to "immerse" ourselves in our service. We have tried to do that and have found joy in it. Even with David & Jill here, we have continued to do our daily responsibilities and let them explore Nauvoo on their own. Then. when we get together, we show them places of interest around here and they have come to Sunset with us. We love you all and we love our service here.
